President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on the leadership of the Scout Movement in Uganda to expose the dangers and challenges the members go through in life, especially the youth, such as alcohol consumption, promiscuity, drug abuse, failure to attend school and cheating their employers, among others ills.

He said that these challenges should be exposed and brought to the attention of children in order to enable them appreciate their adversity in life and be in position early enough to deal with them in the future.

“They should expose the dangers in life, such as alcohol, drugs, not attending school and cheating your employer. All those should be part of the exposures to the Scouts’ movement,” he said.

The President was last evening closing an 8-day Scouts’ camp at Kaazi in Makindye Division, Kampala. The theme of the camp was ‘Engaging Youth for Active and Responsible Citizenship’.

During the camp, the Scouts were taken through several topics including Information Communication Technology (ICT), environmental conservation, road safety, leadership management and entrepreneurship, among others.

President Museveni, who is also the Patron of the Scouts Association in Uganda, applauded all the Scouts for being part of the movement that has for several years addressed a number of issues such as imparting discipline amongst its members. He saluted the Scouts and all those who participated in the camp and observed that the skills they got will go a long way in helping them to survive in life.

“I am glad you came here from your comfortable beds and homes to learn discipline and of survival,” he said.

President Museveni pledged to help improve the site for the Scouts saying that the road from Najjanankumbi to the site is going to be constructed and that the land that belongs to the Scouts’ Movement will be fenced off to forestall intentions of those elements who might be nursing ideas of grabbing that land.

During the function, President Museveni was awarded a medal in recognition of his distinguished support and services to the Scouts Movement in Uganda. A number of other distinguished people also received awards.

State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Mrs. Nakiwala Florence Kiyingi, thanked the President for the support to the camp.

The Scouts Chief Commissioner and Works State Minister, Gen. Katumba Wamala, said the support of the President had enabled the camp to attain a lot of success.
