Gashumba:Stop wasting time and money on Social media and turn social media into an economic Base

If the youth in urban areas would divert the time and money they spend on social media into productive ventures, we would be seeing a lot more successful young people than the influx of success wannabes.

Some of you are on practically every social media platform out there – Snap chat, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp to mention but a few.
On top of that, you belong to 20 WhatsApp and Facebook groups and you follow social media blogs that spread falsehood and hate. Basically, you are everywhere but nowhere. Then in the evening you board your boda boda and taxi back home.
Now, if you are one of these social media idlers mentioned above and you are now reading my post; here is some food for thought – just think for two minutes. What value do you get from spending all your time and money on social media? Yes, I say money because it costs airtime for you to get the MBs you need for internet connectivity. What value do you get by spreading falsehoods?
Did you know that every click you make and time you spend on Facebook makes Mark Elliot Zuckerberg, the chairman, chief executive officer and co-founder of Facebook wealthier?
According to Forbes, Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth rose by nearly $5b (over 18 trillion UGX) in the first two weeks of 2017 alone from $49 billion (over 176 trillion UGX) to an astounding $53.8 billion (about 210 trillion UGX), by far the biggest gain of any person in the world.
This was boosted of course by Facebook’s climbing revenues; by broke people like you who spend three quarters of your time whiling idly away on his platform.
Today at only 32 years of age, Zuckerberg is the world’s fifth-richest person. How much are you who wastes your valuable time on Facebook, worth?
And please do not blame the Government for your dire situation; your survival and wellbeing is your individual responsibility.
From day one, I told my daughter Sheila Gashumba that poverty in our lineage ended when our grandparents walked from Rwanda to Uganda in 1923.
The generation of the Sheilas (in our family) should not walk; they must fly. Anybody can walk but not everyone can fly. That’s why from day one; I told her she must be a financially independent woman.
No one respects a poor person. Actually, when you are poor, your life is practically hell! Forget the lies these Pentecostal pastors peddle that poor people will go to heaven. I seriously doubt that because poor people are the worst sinners! Every conceivable bad habit you will find in the life of a poor person.
Women who would have otherwise been contented in marriages or stable relationships could easily be compelled to cheat on their husbands or boyfriends because of poverty. Now, you tell me what Godly is about cheating.
To you parents don’t simply send children to school. Tell them what they need to learn from school. If school can’t turn our children into financially independent adults then what’s the essence of them going to school?
Granted, our children must have educational qualifications to fit in but the biggest irony is that society does not demand educational qualifications of successful people. It does not care. You are judged by how successful you are and the number of lives you have touched in your lifetime.
Then you have people who, after failing to attain success in the real world, go on to social media and act it out. These are impersonators! Your goal should never be to act rich but rather to work and achieve it.
You have seen those girls who impersonate wealthy people on social media. For how long will people follow you before they discover that you are not made up of real substance?
But on the other hand, if used constructively, social media actually has the ability to propel your dreams to fruition. Smart people know this and have utilized this free platform to mint millions of money!
Sheila Gashumba utilises social media to sell hair extensions, flat tummy tea, cloths, sunglasses etc.
Because of the huge number of her authentic followers on social media, big companies with like Centenary Bank, Radiant Products, Daniel Wellington Watches Sweden, Coke Studio Africa, Club Music Video Awards, Uber etc are now working with to push their own brands through her popularity.
Last word to all you social media freaks; turn you likes and followers into a resource rather than just show off! Turn your popularity (if you wish) on social media into dollars and shillings.

These are the Topics I miss on TV and Radio.
