Police in Kabale Municipality have arrested three suspects in connection with the theft of 19 computers valued at UGX 259 million from Hornby High School Junior in Northern Division, Kabale Municipality.

The suspects, including a computer teacher, casual staff member, and a night watchman, allegedly conspired to break into the school’s computer lab on the night of July 6, 2024, and stole the computers.

According to police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the suspects were arrested after the head teacher, Beinomugisha Geoffrey, reported the incident at Kabale Police Station. A canine search led police to recover eight monitors, and the three suspects were apprehended to aid in investigations.

The incident is a shocking breach of trust and a blow to the education sector in the area. Police are still searching for other suspects believed to be on the run.

The arrests have been welcomed by education stakeholders, who have called for increased security measures in schools to prevent such incidents.

Maate added that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will face charges of office breaking and theft.
