It’s not over yet! Bobi Wine sends warning message to Museveni upon release of his supporters

National Unity Platform [ NUP] leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has sent President Yoweri Museveni a clear message that the six months his close friends and supporters spent in prison will not be reason to relent but rather a source of energy to continue fighting.

Over 100 people on Kyagulanyi’s campaign trail were arrested from the Island district of Kalangala where the NUP candidate had gone to canvas support in November last year.

Even though many of these had since been released in a phased manner, as many as 18 were still held in Kitalya State Prison untill yesterday, June 14 when Gen. Andrew Guti, the chairman Court Martial in Makindye granted them temporary freedom.

Upon release, Mr Kyagulanyi organised a congratulatory party for the former inmates at his home in Magere where he decried the very tight bail conditions against them. These among others include not being allowed to travel outside Kampala and Wakiso without Court’s permission.

“We are very delighted to reconnect with all our comrades who have been released today from illegal detention. After six months of torture, imprisonment and humiliation, the General Court Martial today released 18 of those they were still holding- prominent amongst them Nubian Li, Eddie Mutwe, Dan Magic, Kampala Lookman, Bobi Young, Kivumbi Achleo, and others,” Bobi Wine wrote on his social media handles.

“Their release on bail was hinged on very tough conditions, including an order for them not to go beyond Kampala and Wakiso without the court’s permission.” He added.

He thanked the various categories of Ugandans that joined them to demand for the release of his comrades both those in the country and abroad.

The former presidential candidate however said they should keep struggling for the release of hundred of others still incarcerated in the different prison facilities.

“We must now not relent but continue to struggle until all the hundreds of our people are freed unconditionally,” he appealed.

“We must not relent until Gen. Museveni’s criminal regime is brought to account for all the atrocities they continue to commit on the people of Uganda.”
