OP ED: I understand Pastor Bugingo’s 10 years of emotional pain over Teddy’s bloody vagina

For long, feminists told us to tell everything female as it. They brought vagina monologues. When the so called decent people said cover up, they said what’s to cover up about vaginas! We kept quiet.

We have broken the stigma over menstrual hygiene especially in our schools. We advertise sanitary wears on our Televisions and radios and billboards. Everywhere.

We have discussed all sex taboos especially in the fight against so many diseases including sexually transmitted diseases. We pride in the milestones we have achieved.

Guess, we have a pretentious society. Pastor Aloysius Bugingo has been in the news for saying how emotionally empty he was when his wife Teddy suffered a hearmorage for 10 years and therefore was unable to enjoy intimacy with her. Yet, he said, he remained faithful to her for that long. Bugingo is hero.

Instead of insulting this poor man, I think Ugandans should have applauded him. It is however only those that are blackmailing Bugingo that are pouring more Petrol on this fire which is threatening to bring down the career on a pulpit for the self made preacher.

How many men in their 20s or 30s will be patient with their wives with whom they dont enjoy intimacy with, for 10 years? How many women will keep up with an impotent man waiting on God to intervene in his hopeless case and don’t get side dishes?

I was flabbergasted when early this week I saw Kampala’s top adulterers, husband snatchers, seducers, fornicators etc, lining up to protest against Bugingo. I don’t think Bugingo said anything wrong. No. Everything he said was both decent and factual.

Teddy suffered a hearmorage for 10 years. As a man he suffered sexual starvation. He waited. He is a hero. Most of the people insulting or pouring scorn on him are unable to wait on their wives for nine months when they’re pregnant or breast feeding! What a society!

Secondly, we should not stigmatize disease. Whether it is fistula or vaginal hearmorage, we should say it as it is. No offense. Thank God Teddy is healed. We should be interested in what healed her after all science failed. That would bring new knowledge.

Bugingo should be allowed to give his testimony. A testimony of faith, pain and emotional deprivation. Everyone in church knows this practice. Some say they killed, others robbed, others bewitched, philandered etc….we clap for those testimonials. Why not Bugingo’s sexual starvation? Are we not courageous enough to embrace a man who kept faithful for 10 years. And now he is being denied his right to divorce and remarry by a mob?

Bugingo should be set free. Bugingo you are a hero. Bugingo your testimony is legitimate. Bugingo, feel free to love and unlove. Bugingo, I understand what it means to be sexually starved for 10 years. God has set you free.
