President Yoweri Museveni is expected to address the Nation this Sunday May 22, 2022.
This is according to Senior Presidential Press Secretary Lindah Nabusayi.
Nabusayi says, in his address, the President will update Ugandans on the country’s current Economic situation.
“@KagutaMuseveni will this Sunday May 22, 2022 at 8pm address the Nation to update Ugandans on the current Economic situation. The address will be broadcast live from Nakasero State Lodge. Please save date & tune in, to all Television and Radios @KennethOmona,”Nabusayi tweeted on Thursday.
Mr Museveni’s expected national address comes at a time when the country is grappling with skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.
For months, Ugandans have been experiencing increase in prices of commodities like soap, cooking oil, sugar and others, thus leaving many frustrated. The cost of soap for example has more than doubled from 3500 Shillings a bar to 7500 Shillings. The skyrocketing prices have been attributed to increase in fuel prices by traders.
Recently, a section of MPs tasked government to explain the increasing commodity prices calling for the suspension of fuel taxes among others.
In response to the increasing commodity prices, the Minister of Finance Matia Kasaija has in the past attributed the situation to geo-political tensions that disrupted supply of oil. He said that these issues are beyond the country’s policy makers.
