Chief Justice Bart Katureebe has asked the recently appointed Judicial Corruption Taskforce to expose all officials found in actions of bribery and corruption tendencies in court.
The eight-member task force to investigate allegations of corruption within Judiciary was formed on August 7 following several reports about the increased corruption tendencies in Judiciary.
The force comprises Inspector of Courts Immaculate Busingye (leader of the Task Force) Vincent Emmy Mugabo (Registrar/Public Relations Officer), Susan Abinyo (Registrar Magistrates Affairs and Data Management), Rosemary Bareebe (Deputy Registrar Gulu and representing UJOA),
Others are Ayebare Tumwebaze (Assistant Registrar in the Office of the Chief Registrar/Projects), Patrick Barugahare (Principal Human Resource Office), Eva KentaroMugerwa (An Advocate to represent Uganda Law Society) and Solomon Muyita (Senior Communications Officer).
On Monday while inaugurating the taskforce at Judiciary headquarters in Kampala, Katureebe pledged full support to them and advised them not to leave any stone unturned within Judiciary.
“My administration will ensure that any court staff captured receiving a bribe will be dealt with according to the law. We shall continue to encourage court users and the public to use the available fora to come out and give evidence for firm action to be taken against the errant court staff,” said Katureebe.
According to one of the four terms of reference to the Committee, the selected team with interface with the investigations team of Vision Group to understand the scope and purpose of their ongoing project on exposing corruption in the Judiciary.
The committee will also receive media recordings with a view of identifying the implicated Judiciary staff, who would then be invited to have an interface with the Team.
According to the Office Instruction Number. 4 of 2019 dated July 30, 2019, the Taskforce will report back to the Chief Justice with recommendations on the way forward within 60 days.
