How much can a minister of health be insensitive to a mother who has lost her children?
Recently, a 54 year old woman who had never given birth in her life, delivered three babies at ago, which would have been a miracle bringing lots of joy for her. Unfortunately, when she delivered her children, two of the babies died right away at the national hospital, Mulago.
The reports said the babies died because oxygen ran out to keep them breathing where they were being kept in the nursery.
However, while appearing before Parliament health committee on Wednesday, the minister of health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng told Members of Parliament that the 54-year-old mother who lost her babies at Mulago Hospital should not blame the lack of oxygen at the national hospital for the death of her babies.
Dr Aceng said the babies died because “they were prematures”. She explained that the babies “died in the process of changing the oxygen pipes”.
