Although he is a member of the ruling party NRM, Kampala Central Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko since day one has been expressing strong resistance regarding the lifting of the age limit and on several occasions he has been mobilizing fellow MPs especially those opposed to the move to fight the amendment of article 102b which aims at enabling President Yoweri Museveni rule beyond 75 years of age.
Today, during a media briefing, Nsereko vowed to bar plans by the age limit removal champions from tabling the bill citing that they will grab and tear it.
Here are some of the facts you didn’t know about him;
1.He was born in 1981 as an aggressive and stubborn youngster growing up in the Indian quarters at Old Kampala.
2.He is an old boy of Kibuli SS and Kawempe Muslim Secondary School.
3.Nsereko is a lawyer by profession trained at Makerere University.He also holds a diploma in journalism.
4.Unlike some politicians that emerge from shadows of their biological inclination and rely on the same to climb the political ladder, Hajj Abdul Nsereko, a veteran journalist with Uganda Broadcasting Corporation, and father to the legislator, is no political heavy weight but got amazing contacts.
5.In 2012, Nsereko was at the centre of attention when allegations of fraud involving Crane Bank made headlines, pushing him out of the public eye for some time. However, Crane Bank opted for an out of court settlement, expressing loss of interest in pursuing the case.
6.In 2013, NRM’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) fired Nsereko, Theodore Sekikubo (Lwemiyaga County ), Wilfred Niwagaba (Ndorwa East) and Barnabas Tinkasimire were fired from the party for always opposing party decisions and they were branded ‘Rebel MPs’.
