The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Managing Director Richard Byarugaba has admitted to sacking 12 employees after refusing to renew their contracts.
Last week Watchdog reported how Byarugaba declined to renew contracts of 12 employees who included branch managers for Masaka, Hoima and Kawempe.
However, in one way or the other the sacking backfired against Byarugaba after receiving calls from the above demanding him to reinstate all the sacked employees.
In his defence, Byarugaba said the Fund conducted an end of employment contract review process between May and June 2017, where it was recommended that contracts of 12 employees shouldn’t be renewed.
“Some employees felt aggrieved and appealed against the recommendation,” Byarugaba said in a statement, adding: “Management initiated a process to review the recommendation. This process is on-going in accordance with the Fund’s Human Resource Policy Manual.”
He added that all the affected employees have been given a fair opportunity to present their grievances and be heard and “a final outcome of this process will be duly communicated to the concerned parties.”
The Managing Director further said that not renewing employee contracts is a normal global practice carried out by most corporate companies worldwide.
