Police in Mbarara on Friday arrested Farouk Musa, one of the two suspects who were allegedly involved in the assault and robbery of property belonging to Sandra Muhwezi a daughter to former Information Minister Jim Muhwezi and Nicholas Mugume a son to former Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, James Mugume.
On 16 April 29, 2017 during Easter holiday, the cousins were attacked and severely injured as they were moving from one club to another, trying to enjoy their night in Mbarara town.
Their property including phones, a watch among others were also taken by the thugs.
Though the victims were sustained severe injuries, apparently they are doing well.
Musa who was found in possession of a watch and a phone belonging to one of the victim admitted to committing the crime.
The suspect owns a shop in Mbarara and by the time he was captured, he had already sold one of the phones.
According to Police spokesperson Asan Kasingye, they are working tirelessly to track down the second suspect.
“The Police will continue with the resolve to arrest and completely bring to an end the current wave of criminality in affected parts of our country. We call upon the public to continue giving information to the Police and remain vigilant till these criminals are dealt with completely,” said Kasingye.
Meanwhile, one of the suspects who murdered a businessman called Kavuma Marizuk a 21 year old Timber dealer from Nakawere village Kiteredde parish, Kalangalo subcounty, 30 kms from Mityana town was arrested by the residents after the incident.
The late Kavuma was shot on 27th April, 2017 and three live bullets were recovered from the scene and a motor cycle reg. No. UEB 852X that was used by the criminals recovered too.
The suspect Kasule Reagan from Mubarak zone in Makindye Kampala is helping the Police with investigations.
