Prominent American movie actor, Forest Whitaker is currently in Uganda to visit the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) projects in Kiryandongo and Northern region.

‘The last king of Scotland’ star arrived in Uganda on Wednesday morning ahead of a one week workshop with various NGOs.

The purpose of the workshop is to empower youths in post conflict societies to become catalysts for positive change.

Whitaker is a UNESCO envoy for peace and reconciliation and he also has an NGO called The Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative.

Whitaker as an actor has earned a reputation for intensive character study work for films such as Bird, Platoon, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, and The Butler, and for his work in independent films and for his recurring role as LAPD Internal Affairs Lieutenant Jon Kavanaugh on the Emmy Award-winning television series The Shield. He portrays Saw Gerrera in the Star Wars spin-off film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
