Police has dismissed rumours that Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura has been transferred to United Nations as permanent representative for Uganda.

Police spokesman Andrew Felix Kaweesi has on Saturday afternoon issued a statement saying the rumours were baseless.

“We request the general public to disregard such reports with contempt it deserves,” said Kaweesi.

Rumours in the morning emerged on social media that Gen Kayihura had been replaced by Brig Leo Kyanda as IGP.

The hoax gained currency as mainstream media such as WBS published the rumour on its Facebook page.

High profile appointments in security are announced by relevant radio call announcements of the relevant force, not by social media.
