For years in Uganda traditional performing art has been a preserve of the National Theatre and Ndere Centre where numbers of art lovers could crib to enjoy a mingle of music with a local touch. But trust me this stereotype might be no more, as Yusuf Kaddu the CEO of KIKA troupe has unleashed another arts centre with a inimitable vibe dubbed KIKA perfoming centre in Kitende Sisa Road that is yet proving to be a destination for families, tourists and art lovers.
Different from other art Centres in Uganda the centre has been boosted with a touch of creative and visual arts with the help of American based Fiber artist who has trained KIKA girls to create unique art pieces from textiles and Fabrics. A singer, dancer and drummer, Kaddu explains that he founded KIKA in 2004 at the age of 22 years old Kaddu’s vision was to reawaken the rhythms of Uganda music and beats fusing them with local instruments. Kaddu’s dream of having a performing arts center is now a reality. Kika Performing Arts Centre (KPAC) occupies over 6.5 acres of land and is a place that rocks Africa!
KPAC has: two theaters, two classrooms, a conference centre, guest house, youth hostel, restaurants and beautiful gardens. It is a world-class facility that supports the diversity of all people and promotes the richness and beauty of the performing arts. The Administration Building also houses the Tailoring Department where the unique costumes for Kika are designed and made. PAC Café is now open and provides not only food, but entertainment.
