The Online Media Association (OMA Uganda) on Thursday met information and communication technology minister Frank Tumwebaze to chart a way forward for digital media in the country.
The OMA members led by their chairman, Giles Muhame, the founder and managing editor of ChimpReports told the minister that members of the association subscribe to the highest standards of reporting, which has won them a big following and trust from the online community.
In the presentation made by Kyamutetera Muhereza, the founder of CEO magazine online, it emerged that digital media has come of age in Uganda.
OMA is made up 15 leading Online News Platforms cutting across politics,
business, society & lifestyle, sports & ICT.

The association aims at “delivering factual and impactful news that moves people, grows brands and builds Uganda.”

Mr Tumwebaze welcomed the association’s members and said he was glad to associate with well organized media outlets.
“Professional standards are very important to gain credibility,” the minister said.
He asked the association to continue holding its members to the highest standards, and help the government brand Uganda properly.
Mr Tumwebaze said he was bracing himself for a war with government agencies to channel media buying into one docket, which will engage professional agencies to offer the service.
The 15 online media in the association attract over 5,292,828 monthly visitors and 2,596,412 unique.

On Thursday, the hashtag #ugandaonline about the meeting was the top most trending topic on twitter in Uganda, once again demonstrating the power and impact of the association’s members.
