Victoria University offers free first aid skills to rally drivers

Victoria University has pledged to offer free first aid skills to rally drivers ahead of the Total Kabalega Rally that will be held in Hoima between 17 and 20 October, 2019.

The pledge to support the rally fraternity was made when sport officials visited the university to discuss the details of the growing working relationship.

According to the University Vice Chancellor Assoc. Prof. Krishna N Sharma, the university has designed a four hour short course training that will be offered to rally drivers and their navigators.

Dr. Sharma said the university is well connected with motorsport because the university promoter Rajiv Ruparelia a few months ago kick-started his rallying career and he is doing well.

Rajiv recently graduated to the Club Man Rally Championship (CRC) category in the National Rally Championship (NRC) events.

“I have always felt ripe to take on the big competition, but am glad I can finally join. If the rules allow, then we shall be able to take on the Fort Portal event,” Rajiv said after getting the news of the promotion.

The Kabalega Rally is the penultimate round of this year’s National Rally Championship. A total distance of 303 kilometers will be covered for the rally.

The partnership with motorsport is not an act of isolation; the Ruparelia Group owned-university has in the recent past signed MoUs with Uganda Cricket Association and basketball association.

Uganda Cricket players, both girls and boy, now have an opportunity to further their education at no cost at Victoria University.

The university will help with the psychological performance assessment and analysis of the senior men national team.
