Presidents Yoweri Museveni and Paul Kagame have on Wednesday signed a region security and cooperation agreement.
The deal was signed in Luanda, Angola during the second Quadripartite summit, which was convened find a lasting solution to differences between the neighbouring countries of Uganda and Rwanda.
The summit was chaired by the President of Angola, Joao Lourenco and witnessed by Congo Brazzaville’s Dennis Sassou Nguesso as Chair of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region. Also in attendance was DR Congo’s Felix Tshisekedi.
“…we signed an agreement to improve the political and economic relations between our countries,” President Museveni said soon afterwards.
“We have agreed on a raft of issues that will be implemented between our two countries, largely meant to improve our security, trade, and political relations. Uganda is fully committed to enforcing this agreement.”
This particular meet follows another last month which tackled which tackled regional security, cooperation and strengthening of ties.
Kampala and Kigali have since February 2019 traded accusations and counter accusations which culminated into Rwanda closing its border point at Gatuna.
The closure of the border has disrupted the movement of good and people between the two countries.
