List: 10 people who missed out on People Power coordinators list

The leadership of People Power unveiled a team which will coordinate the movement’s activities ahead of the 2021 General elections.

While unveiling the team, the Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi applauded them for standing with him because many politicians – both opposition and government – thought People Power was a sham.

“I appreciate you the people of Uganda for the hard work you do in the different parts of the country. I thank you for the positive reception you have given our message in the last two years.”

He added: “You received the message of People Power and made it your own. It has permeated our country in many ways. On the onset, some people thought it was exiting but the people of Uganda have proven President Museveni wrong,” said Kyagulanyi.

Over 121 people have been unveiled as coordinators in all regions in Uganda. Also named are representatives from the informal sector, youth wing, institutions, Women wing, Arts and Entertainment, PWDs and Diaspora.

Although the list has been welcomed by sections of the media and country, it came under scrutiny for some missing names. We bring you 10 of the prominent members of People Power who have been overlooked for one reason or another.

1. Mukasa Mbidde, is one of Uganda’s East African Legislative Assembly’s (EALA) representatives. On several occasion, he has been seen chanting ‘People Power slogans’ even more than those of the Democratic Party to which he belongs.

2. Gerald Karuhanga, During the Arua fracas last year, the Ntungamo Municipality MP was among the legislators who were arrested by the soldiers and tortured alongside Kyagulanyi. Like Mbidde, Karuhanaga has always chanted ‘People Power, Our Power’ complete with the red beret.

3. Latif Ssebagala Sengendo. A seasoned politician, news is rife that he is coming to contest for the post of Kampala Lord Mayorship with People Power backing. We are still surprised at his omission.

4. Ssegirinya Muhammad. The Kawempe North Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) councillor has also been dropped yet he always campaigned for People Power via Facebook. On several occasions, he has been arrested for screaming ‘Museveni Must Go’.

5. George Fred Kagimu. The Mukono Municipality Mayor has also missed on the list yet is among those eying the Mukono Municipality Parliamentary seat, supposedly on the People Power ticket.

6. Eddi Yawe. A brother to the People Power leader Robert Kyagulanyi, Yawe’s omission is too conspicuous that he was even overlooked in the entertainment segment. For one whose political ambitions were realised way earlier even before Kyagulanyi surfaced, one would say that his experience in politics would earn him a position on the list.

7. Michael Mabikke Sseninde. The former Makindye East lawmaker has also missed on the list. Mabikke was among the potential candidates for the post of People Power spokesperson before Joel Ssenyonyi was appointed. He has used his oratory skills to spread the People Power on several radio talk shows.

8. Peng Peng. Raymond Soulfa alias Peng Peng is a Ugandan blogger based in Sweden. He is also known as the People Power assassin, defending the movement with his heart and soul plus words ofcourse. He promised to keep spreading the gospel.

9. Henry Lubowa. Democratic Party’s Lubowa has also missed out on the list despite the fact that he has always been vocal for People Power and has been arrested several times for defending the movement.

10. Jennifer Full Figure. The faded musician has returned to the limelight as a vocal People Power supporter. She claims she ‘sleeps, eats and breathes People Power.’
