Bobi Wine intercepted on his way to CID, detained at Naggalama Police Station

Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has been detained at Naggalama Police Station.

The legislator was heading to Criminal Investigative Directorate (CID) office in Kibuli where he was summoned to answer queries in regards to aftermath of his Kyarenga Extra Concert saga. The cancelled show was meant to happen on Easter Monday at One Love Beach, Busabala.

In a police summons dated April 25, 2019 Bobi Wine was ordered to appear at CID office on Friday, April 26 at 2:00pm to answer queries of the alleged cases of inciting violence and unlawful assembly.

The summons alleged that Bobi Wine defied orders from the Inspector General of Police Martin Ochola who had earlier cancelled his Kyarenga Extra Concert.

“Inquiries are being conducted in the above quoted reference whereby on the 22/04/2019, you were allegedly involved in inciting violence and unlawful assembly in defiance of the inspector general of police guidelines during preparation of Kyarenga Extra Concert in Busaabala” reads the summons in parts.

AIGP Asuman Mugyenyi on behalf of Ochola had on Easter Sunday issued a letter cancelling Bobi Wine’s music show, but allegedly he defied the police notice as he went on with the concert preparations. On Easter Monday, he was intercepted on his way to Busabala, arrested and placed under house arrest at his residence in Magere.

Last Thursday, he managed to escape to attend a burial of former NRM Chairperson Haji Siraji Samanya Lyavaala in Buguri District. This meant he could not honour the Friday summons. The police then issued fresh ones for him to appear at CID offices in Kibuli.

On Monday, Kyaguanyi in company of his fellow legislators Francis Zaake (Mityana Municipality), and Asuman Basaalirwa (Bugiri District) as well as a big crowd of People Power supporters chanting ‘People Power Our Power’ tried to make it to Kibuli but were intercepted in Kalerwe and driven off to Naggalama.

Basaalirwa,  who is also his Lawyer, confirmed to the media that Bobi Wine was taken to Naggalama Police station, and detained. Basaalirwa claims that they are still waiting to see what will follow next.
