Heavy rains have destroyed more than 10 houses and several gardens in Buhara Sub-County of  Kabale District.

According to the residents, the rains, which started at around 10:00pm and lasted for more than three hours on Wednesday left of the houses at Muyebe Primary School destroyed. The rains also destroyed houses in the villages of Katiba, Nyamurogo, Nyakabungo and Rwampisi in Buhara Sub County.

The residents also say the rains destroyed banana plantations, gardens of sorghum, sweat potatoes, Irish potatoes, beans, tomatoes among others. Jane Namanya, a resident of Nyamurogo says that the roof of his house was blown off and his entire beans garden destroyed by the rain.

Namanya says that she is worried of how to get school fees and food  for her family since she was expecting to rip much from her be garden.

Edson Turyamuboona, another resident appealed to government to come to  their rescue, saying they are stuck.

The Buhara Sub County chairperson Joseph Baryamujura says the disaster  is a big blow to food production in the area. Turyamuboona says that  the heavy rains also left the feeder roads in the sub county  impassable.

He, however, says that a team from the sub-county is carrying an  assessment which they will submit to the District Disaster management department requesting for assistance to the affected families.
