A nursery teacher has expressed concern over the time parents give their children both at home and school.
Namagga Salima, a teacher at Buwambo Parents School in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso district said she is surprised to see that there is an increase in the number of pupils who remain at school after lunch due to the fact that their parents don’t have time for them.
She was speaking at the school premises on Friday during celebrations to World Teachers Day.
Namagga states that most parents have been overtaken by the work that they do, something which gives them less time to stay with their children.
“Last term we had less than 30 pupils staying at our premises in the afternoon. But surprisingly this term, the numbers have doubled as compared to that of last term,” added Namagga.
She explained that the early stages are the times when a child needs parental love, time and care rather than any other stage of growth. She added that the pupils love to see their parents but if parents end up denying them that right, then they will end up calling them wrong names or titles.
“We always have sports and speech days here at the school but some parents never show up. This affects them negatively.”
In Uganda, under the Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) the national teacher’s day was celebrated under the theme “The right education means the right to a qualified teacher.”
