Ugandan leader Yoweri Museveni as called on Christians in the country to ‘practice what the Bible they believe in teaches and stop corruption as well as murdering their brothers. The call was delivered by State Minister for Finance, David Bahati, during a fundraising mass for the construction of Mbarara Archdiocese House and premises for Mbarara Development Association (AMDA) held at Kitante Primary School at the weekend.
About Shs2 Billion of the projected Shs5billion for the project has already been realized.
“According to the census held in 2014 by Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), 85 per cent of Ugandans are Christians. And regardless of which denominations they belong to, they believe in the Bible. However, my biggest question is why they do not practice what the Bible teaches in Matthew 5:13-15; being the salt and light to the world. Who is killing people? Who is practicing corruption yet the statistics show us that 85 per cent of Ugandans confessed Christ.”
Museveni expressed his disappointment that most of the public offices are occupied by mostly Christians who go to church but do not practice what they learn but instead they have made public offices bleeding places for corruption.
The President also assured Christians that there will be always freedom of worship because that is what his regime fought for.
Towards the project, Mr Museveni contributed Shs100 million, Shs30 million.
Meanwhile, the Archbishop of Mbarara Archdiocese, His Eminence Paul Bakyenga called on Christians to start supporting themselves and stop waiting for donations.
Bakyenga also called on Christians to pray for peace in his home district of Sheema.
“Sheema is not well. We need peace and not only in Sheema but all over Uganda we need peace and freedom,” he rallied.
In response to Archbishop’s call, Hon Bright Rwamirama, the member of Parliament Isingiro County North affirmed him that peace will always prevail in Sheena district. He however, he cautioned Christians not to tolerate politics in the church.
“Get politics out of church and do developmental issues which will sustain our country on going forward,” the retired UPDF Colonel said.
