A section of Chinese business people under Taizhou Chamber of Commerce Uganda on Wednesday undertook a charity donation to Kampala School for the Physically Handicapped (KSPH) in Mengo.
The Chinese donated basic needs worth shs20 million to the mentally and physically challenged children to help them in their daily lives.
Items donated included among others; 20 wheelchairs, cups, shoes, plates, clothes and toothpaste.
One of the organizers, Jane Zhang said as Chinese investors, they are not only here to do business but also to help needy Ugandans which shall help to strengthen the Uganda- China relationship.
“We are not in Uganda to only do business but to also help Ugandans,” she noted.
She said all the items they donated, they got them from their merchandise with the main aim of helping the disabled children.
Ms Zhang further revealed that they will continue offering their assistance to all Ugandans who need special help.
The Director of KSPH Ms. Joy Mwesigwa applauded the donors for their good giving hearts.
She said her school still finds it a challenge to provide for all children but with such donations from volunteers, they are able to overcome the prevailing situation.
“On Behalf of the school, parents and teachers we would like to thank Taizhou Chamber of Commerce for this wonderful donation. Wheelchairs are costly and we have over 60 children who use them so getting a donation of 20 plus other basic items is a big milestone to our school,” Ms Mwesigwa asserted.
Apparently, KSPH was started in 1969 by the UgandaSpastics Society consisting of parents and professionals who had children with cerebral palsy.
Their aim was to improve the quality of life and rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy. It started with a capacity of 30-40 pupils.
Now it has expanded to include children with various disabilities and to date it has an enrolment of 186 pupils and 42 staff members.
