Kampala – Engaging the Uganda’s youthful population in gainful employment remains one of the country’s key challenges. To address this challenge, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Uganda together with the Government’s Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development are launching YouthConnekt Initiative in Uganda.
The event will take place at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala on this Friday.
The Africa wide programme which started in Rwanda is intended to promote youth led innovation for their own self development. The Initiative also connects young people to their role models, peers, resources, skills, economic opportunities and will have a supporting online infrastructure that has been developed – Youth Online Innovators Platform.
YouthConnekt Uganda will be grounded on three key aspects; working together, being accountable, and thinking big. The proposed YouthConnekt Uganda will be premised on skills set, mindset change and will engage youth to co-create and take up opportunities themselves.
The launch will be headlined by the Mr. Pius Bigirimana, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development together with Ms. Rosa Malango, the UNDP Resident Representative and UN Resident Coordinator.
It will be held in partnership with Reach a Hand, Uganda – a youth led organisation, OutBox Innovators Hub and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
