State Minister for Environment Mary Goretti Kitutu Kimono on Saturday gave out hundreds of trees to pupils to plant at their homes in order to see the whole of Uganda green.
The minister who was the chief guest at the 4TH Annual International Children’s Climate Change Conference called upon pupils to plant more trees to be able to make the environment greener.
“I am playing a practical role. Today, I brought trees for you to take home and make your environment greener,” said Minister Kitutu.
She asserted that government is putting up tough measures to fight encroachment on nature and as directed by the President Yoweri Museveni, all people who encroached on swamps and forests are to vacate by July this year.

Kitutu further applauded Little Hands Go Green for the wonderful campaign of fighting against Climate change through encouraging young people to plant trees.
Over 40 schools both local and international attended the conference which took place at Kampala International School Uganda (KISU).
Pupils from different schools showcased several motions regarding environmental conservation and condemned the ongoing environmental destruction processes like deforestation, swamps and wetland reclamation among others.
On the other hand, delegation from Rwanda’s Little Go Green also attended the conference and challenged the Ugandan government to do more and fight against environment degradation. They reasoned out why the government has failed to completely ban use of polythene bag like it is in Rwanda.
Uganda’s Little Hands Go Green Executive Director Joseph Masembe urged the young generation to conserve the environment through preserving the green citing that the future of a better environment is in their hands.
On the very day the chief guest planted a tree at KISU as a practical example to pupils on what they should do to the doled out trees.
Outstanding companies like National Water and Sewerage Corporation, Mitti and Bigwa among others were given certificates of participation.
