Kiryandongo District, Uganda — Yara East Africa, the world’s leading crop nutrition company and provider of sustainable agricultural and digital solutions, has partnered with Asili Agriculture, Uganda’s largest producer of maize and oil seeds, for a collaborative field tour for farmers in Kiryandongo District.

The tour aimed to showcase sustainable practices and demonstrate the practical application of these techniques, highlighting their positive impact on crop yields and environmental health. Additionally, the event fostered collaboration by encouraging dialogue among stakeholders to explore opportunities for advancing Uganda’s agricultural sector. Local farmers were empowered with practical insights and knowledge to enhance their farming practices and improve their livelihoods.

John Meshack Rotich, Commercial Manager Uganda, Yara East Africa, emphasized the importance of the partnership and Yara’s commitment to empowering local farmers.

“We are thrilled to partner with Asili for this field tour, which is a testament to our shared commitment to transforming agriculture in Uganda. By showcasing sustainable and innovative farming practices, we aim to empower local farmers with the knowledge and tools they need to improve their productivity and livelihoods. At Yara, we believe that collaboration is key to driving positive change in the agricultural sector, and this tour is a step towards achieving that goal,” said Rotich.

“At Yara, we are committed to working with farmers and leading food value chain companies on specific initiatives that integrate our crop nutrition knowledge, science-based products, and digital tools. By creating comprehensive crop solutions for farmers, we can significantly enhance their productivity and sustainability. Our partnerships with food value chain companies enable us to scale these solutions to millions of farmers within their direct agricultural sourcing programs, ensuring high-quality produce for food and beverage production. This collaborative approach is essential for transforming agriculture and securing a sustainable future for Uganda and the entire East African region,” he reiterated.

Commenting on the event, Andrew Kasambeko, Producer Services Manager at Asili Agriculture, highlighted the event’s value for farmers.

“We are very happy that the partnership with Yara East Africa is now crowding in the smallholder farmers. This demonstrates our shared vision of developing the agricultural sector in Uganda. With Yara, we have a proof case to showcase and we are glad that the farmers have been able to see for themselves the benefits of crop and soil nutrition. We will continue to encourage farmers to adopt the same principles that they’ve learned here on their own farms.”

Asili Agriculture, an integrated food security platform in East Africa, serves as Yara’s partner for this initiative. The farm’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement aligns perfectly with Yara East Africa’s vision for a more productive and sustainable agricultural landscape in Uganda.
