The Alebtong Deputy Resident District Commissioner has commissioned 10 newly constructed boreholes by the ‘Link to Progress’ organization on Thursday, 21st April 2022.

The project commissioning took place at Apalalyec village, Angoltok parish, Abako sub-county in the Alebtong district.

Aleptong Deputy RDC, Steven Odongo commissioned the boreholes on behalf of RDC Robert Adiama, who is monitoring trips of projects within the district.

Odongo thanked ‘Link to Progress’ for the initiative and appreciated the government in the leadership of His Excellency, the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa for providing enabling space to the Non-Governmental Organizations in development processes to achieve the NRM manifesto of “Secure your Future.”

“If it wasn’t the involvement of the NRM Government, opportunities like that couldn’t have reached the community,” the Deputy RDC said.

Odongo further urged and guided the community to make the best use of the boreholes and properly maintain them. He said that locals should make good use of the constructed boreholes for household works, and irrigation which will support agriculture and generate income for their families.

The Alebtong Chief Administrative Officer, Local Council V chairperson representative, Alebtong water officer, coordinator Link to Progress, and District health officer, among others, were all present during the commissioning of the boreholes.

The community was happy and appreciated leaders for the proper thinking.

“The establishment of this initiative is a profound confirmation that the government has given the organization a conducive environment that favored them to construct the boreholes,”Mr Odongo added.

He als reaffirmed the distribution of the cassava stems under the Operation Wealth Creation to the people of Alebtong, and, urged them to appreciate the good initiative portraying the relevance of the ruling government to its residents.

“The community should be proud of all the government programs and projects that are meant to benefit them, and appreciate the president for enabling peaceful and remorseful conducive environment for socialism.”

Link to Progress project manager, Ms. Isabella Akello, in her letter stated that the organization that began operations in Uganda in 2008, serves the needy communities through the provision of good sanitation and hygiene to all, through the involvement of the lower local government of Uganda.

“Our project under the ‘Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programs began on June 2020, and will run until June 2023 with constructions of 30 boreholes that will be in three phases, with 10 already constructed in Abako sub-county in the first phase.” The activities will be in two sub-counties of Abako and Amugo respectively,” Akello stated.
