Uganda Rugby Sevens Captain Micheal Wokorach has declared that they qualification for the 2019 HSBC World Rugby Series is what they will focus on during the Hong Kong qualifiers dues April 5 – 17.

The national team departed the country for Hong Kong on Sunday.

“We have been there before and have learnt one or two things which will help us move a step higher. We are focused to give 100 percent at the HSBC World Series in Hong Kong. The team preparations have been perfect and therefore we are confident as we depart,” said Wokorach.

Uganda have been drawn in Pool G alongside Cook Islands, Chile and Germany. While Cook Islands may not pose much of a threat, Chile and Germany will ask all of the questions given that Uganda has lost all the three games they have played against Germany previously.

Head Coach Tolbert Onyango sounded confident of his team’s chances as he believes they have what it takes after the preparations they’ve had but was worried if they had enough time to train well and the lack of action for the rugby sevens team and the

“Last year’s Africa Cup is the last tournament we played in. These other teams have been getting all sorts of tournaments. Chile hosted an event which had the likes of Germany, South Africa and all those top sides but we are not so far way, we can compete,” Onyango told the press.

Uganda will get their campaign running with two games on the opening day (April 5th) against Germany and then Chile before taking on Cook Islands in their last game in the group on April 6th at the Hong Kong stadium.

Heathens winger Paul Masendi will be making his sevens debut on the team which features top player like Captain Micheal and assistant Phillip Wokorach who joined the club late after his club reluctantly let him go.

Players:
Michael Wokorach (Team Captain), Philip Wokorach (Vice Captain), Adrian Kasito, Timothy Kisiga, Joseph Aredo, Pius Ogena, Desire Ayera, Isaac Massa, Ian Munyani, Byron Oketayot, Paul Masendi, Aron Ofoirwoth

Officials:
Head Coach: Tolbert Onyango
Strength & Conditioning coach: Geoffrey Kimani
Team Manager: Michael Wandera
Physio: Noah Kayongo
