Kanungu: Reverend in trouble for holding prayers as Covid-19 continues to ravage country

Kanungu police on Sunday arrested Rev. Sunday Kanyankore,50, and a Lay leader Nabimanya Christopher, 42, of Kanyamuganga Church of Uganda for defying the directives of the President and Ministry of Health guidelines on COVID-19.

On a tip off to the Resident District Commissioner from the locals, Police swung into action and caught the Reverend red handed in church at around 12.15pm baptizing many children in the presence of their parents.

According to the Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate, the cleric was charged for doing an act likely to spread corona and disobedience of lawful orders.

Maate talking to our reporter revealed that Rev Kanyankore was released on bond,but would face the law.

“He was given police bond because of old age and will apear in Court once inquiries are complete, ” Maate said.

The case has been registered at Kanungu police under file numberCRB 301/2021.
