Drama ensued at Iganga Central Police Station on Thursday when a man who had gone to file a complaint stole a phone belonging to an officer on duty.

According to a local daily, the suspect disguised himself as a complainant who had come to register a case of theft and instead pocketed the officer’s Tecno smartphone.

The District Police Commander David Ndaula, said the officer became suspicious when he could not see his mobile phone that had been placed on the desk and subjected the suspect to a search during which the phone was found in his pockets.

Upon arrest, Ndaula further revealed that the suspect led them to his residence in Jinja where they recovered laptops and mobile phones, all suspected to have been stolen.

He is currently being detained at Iganga Central Police Station.
