Over 10,000 village homes to receive free quality solar systems in new campaign

Empowering the Future Foundation, a Not for profit organization, Village Power Uganda, a leading solar energy solutions provider together with, the Miss Uganda Foundation and MAAD McCann have today launched a strategic campaign to help light up 10,000 rural homes for disadvantaged families across Uganda.

The campaign dubbed “Power a Home Campaign’’ will benefit over 50,000 people from selected districts across Uganda.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Thomas Huth, one of the founders of Empowering the Future Foundation (EFF) – elaborated on why he together with his partners joined this cause, and called upon Ugandans to be part of this campaign.

‘’Having invested in Africa through our Village Power Group, and as the majority shareholders in Village Power Uganda over the last 5 years, we realized that despite our efforts to transform people’s lives in the country through provision of quality solar products, many families still have a major need and requirement for solar and other related products, but cannot afford to pay for them due to the low levels of income and poverty in the country among other things. It is because of this reason that we decided to start this initiative with the aim of bringing everyone together to create a positive impact in the society we live in.” he said

‘’At Village Power, we believe that everybody can have a better life and we empower them to do so by building a customer centric last mile distribution and service network for solar systems and energy efficient appliances. Access to electricity is a major driver for positive development. This campaign is in line with our values and objectives. Each Family will receive a 4-light Village Power Solar Home system fully installed with a 2 year on site warrantee and after sales service.’’ said Mr. Ali Balunywa, Managing Director Village Power Uganda during the launch event at Hotel Africana Kampala.

The Miss Uganda Foundation will use this campaign as an avenue to promote and improve the education standards, and general health and safety especially for the girl child in these identified disadvantaged families across the country.

“Statistics suggest that the poor education results from rural schools are majorly a result of children not being able to revise in the night, as well as living in very unhealthy environments among other things. The girl child who cannot leave home at night to go to a nearby place that has electricity to read has suffered the most. This among other reasons is why we have teamed up with EFF, and Village Power Uganda to ensure that we create visible change in our society through this campaign and partnership,” said Brenda Nanyonjo CEO Miss Uganda Foundation.

Speaking at the launch, the reigning Miss Uganda & Miss World Africa 2018 Quiin Abenakyo on behalf of the academy of queens expressed her excitement for being part of a cause that is very close to her heart.

“Having grown up seeing many young girls from many disadvantaged families failing to have the
opportunity to read or even progress in their education as a result of lack of light, which in some cases has led to early teenage pregnancy when these girls drop out of school, together we can actively change this trend by contributing in any way we can to power up 10,000 homes! We are ready to light Uganda and empower 50,000 people over the next twelve months!

It costs only 550,000/= for you to transform someone’s life permanently by providing a fully connected quality solar system. Please join us as we fundraise and achieve this goal’’ she said
The campaign will start from Mayuge District proceed to the other selected districts across the country.

Contributions to the campaign can be sent to 0707991177, 0787064756 in the name of: Empowering the Future Foundation Limited via mobile money or by direct bank deposit;
