The Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Martins Okoth Ochola has today hosted News Editors and Managers of various media houses at Police Headquarters, Naguru.

“First of all I wish to thank the media for the contribution they have made to the development of this country. I know the importance of the fourth estate. It can do good or bad but am going with consciousness that we need the good side of the media,” Mr. Okoth Ochola said in his opening remarks.

He added: “It’s good that today we are meeting and we need to sort this out. By the time we leave here, we should have rules of the game and engagement.”

He noted that IGP’s office is open and that the media players should not wait for situations to occur and begin to lament and accuse the Force.

“Our doors are always open,” he told the editors adding, “as we handle matters of the state, we don’t need one side blackmailing. We need to engage ourselves. Embrace positive reporting, follow the ethics of journalism, respect your integrity, profession and personal record so that you succeed in life.”

He also promised to work and respond to the issues raised by the Editors and Managers to have Police Officers respect journalist.

The meeting was convened to address complains of bad working relationship between the media and the police in line with their duty.
