The government of Uganda through the minister for lands Hon. Chris Baryomunsi has promised to imprison all landlords who evict tenants when they are not following the law.
Baryomunsi was today at the Golf course hotel Kampala giving his opening remarks in a National land dialogue organised by Food Rights Alliance (FRA).
The minister notes that a few people know what the law says about land but they just decide not to follow.
“The law is very clear. All sorts of land matters are clearly stated by law and we are ready to put all the defaulters in jail.” Noted Baryomunsi
He added that the government is trying its best to see that land is managed well.
“You all know that many Ugandans own land but they don’t have land tittles. Those are some of the problems we are trying to sort.” Baryomunsi lamented.
Agnes’s Kirabo the Executive Director for FRA said that many Ugandans need to be sensitized in order for them to understand the land law.
The dialogue involved members of Parliament, land activists as well as civil societies.
