The Minister of State for Works, Gen Katumba Wamala, has urged residents from Budaka Constituency to constantly clean their environment so as to safe guard themselves from diseases like malaria, diarrhea, dysentery and trachoma, among others.

Gen Katumba said this while launching the 37th UPDF Tarehe Sita civil-military activities at Budaka Health Centre IV where the UPDF medical team is involved in free male circumcision, free HIV/AIDS Counselling and Testing, free dental and eye care checks, maternity works, among other medical services.

“Give children direction on the importance of cleanness so that the nation gets healthy citizens,” Gen katumba told parents and local leaders in Budaka. He emphasized that prevention is better than cure since treatment has a physical and financial implication.

Gen Katumba urged youth to work hard and develop themselves by freely using the peaceful and stable environment provided by government.

“Without security, there can be no development. Therefore, embrace programs like Operation Wealth Creation or Youth Development Scheme to enrich yourselves and take care of government properties like the recently donated tractors to upgrade roads at district level,” he observed.

The Works State Minister, applauded UPDF for stabilizing the country and reminded them not to forget their primary role of cooperating with the civilian community.

Gen Katumba thanked the Commander –In –Chief of the Armed Forces Gen Yoweri Museveni, for laying the foundation of an army that is hard working and disciplined to be used as a vehicle in strengthening the EAC integration process – where a bigger market will be created and labour will move freely.

“ UPDF is an all-inclusive professional army that recruits only educated and disciplined Ugandans. Those who qualify are free to join and serve the nation,” noted Gen Katumba.

He cautioned parents not to send indiscipline children into the army, saying that this would jeopardize the already secured environment.

Gen Katumba further promised Budaka residents that government will collaborate with local leaders to settle the River Namataba dispute between Bagwere
