President Yoweri Museveni has lashed out at medical doctors whom he thinks have made it a habit of disrupting public services through striking.
While hosting an annual Thanksgiving Service at State House, Entebbe under the theme “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of God” on Friday, the president said he will not tolerate another strike from the doctors citing that they should be careful in whatever decision they take.
“Those doctors should be careful, I will not tolerate another strike from them’ We have heard their queries and government is working hard to solve their problems so they should be careful, They should stop this habit of disrupting the public services,” warned Museveni.
Meanwhile, yesterday doctors resolved to further extend their industrial action to next year which they had earlier planned to resume on 16th December after failing to agree on certain terms with government over their demands that had led them into a three weeks strike last month, demanding a salary increment and provision of a good working environment with medical equipment in government health facilities.
Dr Ekwaro Obuku, the president of the Uganda Medical Association (UMA) revealed that they reached the decision during a Friday morning meeting with the Ministry of Health officials.
He said, “We have opted for this option, further suspending the Industrial Action, taking into consideration of the festive season where safety is compromised in terms of road traffic accident causalities. The progress we have made with government in renewing constructive engagement and the need to go back to the drawing table to recrystalise our next quest as Ugandan doctors,”
