On Thursday, the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga sent the House into recess so that MPs go back to their constituencies to consult people about the constitutional amendment bill aiming at scrapping age limit.
On that same day Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa said the Parliamentary Commission is considering a budget to facilitate the MPs consultation with the constituents whereby each MP will have to pocket shs20 million.
However, MPs opposed to the contentious age limit bill have refused the consultation money saying they don’t need it because the national constitution is not for sale.
On behalf of opposition MPs, Muhammad Nsereko (Kampala Central) and Ibrahim Semujju (Kira Municipality) have already taken their stand saying that no anti age limit bill legislator will take the money in question.
Nsereko requested government that instead of spending such huge amount of money on the controversial bill, it’s better for it to be injected in health facilities as well as creating jobs for the youth.
