Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has lifted a ban on live broadcasts which it had imposed on radio and television stations.
Last week, the commission’s Executive Director Godfrey Mutabazi said live broadcasts incite the public, discriminate, stir up hatred, promote a culture of violence amongst viewers and are likely to create public insecurity or violence following the chaotic events which surrounded the contentious age limit debates.
However, on Thursday during a meeting with National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), Mutabazi revealed his commission has decided to lift the ban.
He also gave NAB members three months to install pre-listening devices to ensure live footage is filtered before being relayed to the public.
