State drops charges against Mumbeere, 19 others

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Mike Chibita has dropped charges against Omusinga wa Rwenzururu Charles Wesley Mumbere and 19 of his subjects.

Through a withdrawal form, Chibita informed the Chief Magistrate that his office has decided to discontinue the proceedings against Mumbere and 19 others.

Others whose charges have been dropped include Yowasi Wasesera, Ngabutaki John, Nsekanabo Nehemiah, Matirimwenda Thembo Ezron, Bazara Kalinda, Kabhugo Charles Katoko, Muti Rauben, Wasesere Bony, Wilson Karemire Muhindo, Muhindo Kenneth, Bwambale Bukedya Yokas, Kikaya Joshua, Baligasaki Josef, Karemire Zaria Eagle, Kibichabo Marcoplo Ezra, Mutonya Dan, Bwambale Dan, Mumbere Julius and Butsilo Alex.

Mumbere who was recently granted bail after spending months in Luzira Prison has been accused with 42 counts which include murder, treason, aggravated robbery among others.

He was arrested in November, 2016 along with some of his subjects following the Kasese clashes which left more than 100 people dead.
