Students from the best school in Uganda, St Mary’s Kitende, according to Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) results of the previous year, miserably failed in the simple pre entry examinations set by Makerere University before one qualifies to join its law course.
The school owned by sports administrator Lawrence Mulindwa, has been left naked after a decade of suspicion that its students were not exactly passing on their own.
St Mary’s Kitende is always competing for honours among the best schools in O and A levels in the country.
Most students that made the list are from traditional schools such as St Mary Namagunga, Namilyango College, St Mary Kisubi, Gayaza Girls and Budo Kings College, among others.
Watchdog understands that only two students from St Mary’s scored above 55 out of more than 100 students that sat the pre-entry examination.
Only 224 of the 2,609 students who wrote the exams earned the requisite 50 per cent pass mark and above.
Students are tested on logic, reading, comprehension, language, numerical, general knowledge and analytical writing skills.
King’s College Budo students emerged the best taking up at least 21 places of the 224 students. They were followed by Uganda Martyrs SS Namugongo (17), Mt St Mary’s College Namagunga (11), Seeta High School (9) and St Mary’s SS Kitende (9).
