Uganda is going to host UN solidarity summit for refugees on the 22nd to 23rd June in Kampala, Uganda that will examine regional aspects of international migration and refugees in order to gather inputs to the global compact.

Uganda premier Ruhakana Rugunda said that the summit aims at mobilizing funds which will increase on the humanitarian support as Uganda currently ranks highly amongst the refugee hosting countries in Africa and the world.

During a press conference held at the Uganda media centre today, Rugunda said that the summit will be a continuation on the United Nation summit that was held in September last year.

“Uganda receives 2000 refugees approximately per day yet we have to keep our borders open to our brothers and sisters who are forced to leave their countries,” Rugunda said.

The United Nation Resident Coordinator Rosa Mulango also said that Uganda is a home of more than 1.2 million refugees and that’s why it is important to address their long term needs.

“This summit is a transformative process for Uganda, ladies we are mobilizing support for 12 districts hosting refugees mostly in the northern Uganda,” Mulango said.

Mulango added that Uganda’s refugee model is globally acclaimed.
