On Tuesday morning, the president’s office received a resignation letter from a special presidential assistant in charge of research and information, Morrison Rwakakamba.

Rwakakamba asked to step down as a presidential aide and Head of the Government Citizen Interaction Centre (GCIC), which was set up recently by Information and ICT minister Frank Tumwebaze to coordinate government communications.

Rwakakamba who was the executive director at agency transformation landed the post of the special [presidential assistant of research and information on 18th July 2013.

Rwakakamba, in his resignation letter thanked the president for the opportunity he gave him but said he wants to join the non state sector, specifically to focus on agricultural production.

In his words “with thankfulness, am handling in my resignation henceforth as special presidential assistant (research and information)”.

Rwakakamba has been on the forefront of criticizing President Museveni’s son in law Odrek Rwabogo who is currently championing what he is calling NRM ideology.  The now president’s aide attacked Rwabogo criticizing Museveni and calling him a strongman, words used by Museveni’s critics.

Rwakakamba who returned from US last year until Tumwebaze offered him a job to head GCIC, which was sold as the agency to revolutionise government, is a HIID Merit Scholar & Mason Fellow in Public Policy Management, at Harvard University – Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
