Rubaga Cathedral has approved a request by local artistes and celebrities to hold a thanks giving mass for Bobi Wine on Wednesday, November 28.

According to organisers, there is need to thank God for keeping the musician- turned-politician safe, ‘despite what he has gone through.’

Bobi Wine or Robert Kyagulanyi, the Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, is facing treason charges following the chaos that ensued in the aftermath of the Arua Municipality by-election in August. He is due to appear in court on December 3.

Bobi Wine and 33 others are accused of stoning the presidential convoy in Arua.

“After the Arua fracas and subsequent detention in a Gulu prison as well as the uncertainty and then success of the Kyarenga concert, we deserve to say thanks to God,” one of the organisers said.

“The federation of performing artists as well as the top leadership in the art industry are fully involved in the organisation of the mass scheduled to begin at 3:00pm.”

The artistes will also use the opportunity to pray for their departed colleagues such as Moze Radio, Harriet Kisakye, Dizzy Nuts among others.

Several artistes stood by Bobi Wine when he was arrested, with #FreeBobiWine instrumental in his release from Military custody.

At the Kyarenga Concert early this month, musicians Geoffrey Lutaya, Dr Hilderman, Ronald Mayinja  and Mathias Walukaga announced their intentions to represent their constituencies in the next Parliamentary elections.
