Salon Magazine: Weird things that happen in an average ladies salon in Uganda

In Uganda, we basically have three types of ladies salons, which include the modern high class salons-They are mainly situated in urban Centers, and are mainly for high class people given the price they charge for their services.

We also have mobile salons-the salon services are always bought at your home or anywhere you like and in most cases these salons don’t have a specific address.

And then the most common ones, I prefer to call them average salons for they are not so cheap and not expensive. These salons mainly have names like ‘Maama…something’, ‘Lady….something’. Here are more interesting facts about these average salons.

Gossip

Ladies love to gossip, but there is no good place for gossip than a salon. As men do their stuff in their ‘Bibanda’ while watching football or betting, ladies spend their gossiping moments in salons talking about a lot of stuffs.

Gossip in these salons has no limits and no topic is safe, as ladies talk about everything, they gossip about their men, the girl who doesn’t greet, the one who aborted, the unfaithful lover, the woman who stole someone’s husband, among other community things.

If you spend most of your time in town working but want to know what happens when you are way, or what people talk about you, befriend the salon lady.

Unprofessional advisors

In every local salon, there is always a lady who knows everything about relationships, bedroom affairs, the witch doctor who is good at solving family problems, skin and body care solutions among other stuff that keep the salon entertained.

These are mainly house wives who have a lot time to give their unprofessional advice, they sometimes pretend to be living in perfect marriage life and mainly love a lot to share their thoughts with youths.

However, some of their advice maybe good, sometimes.

Cheap prices

Despite the gossip that tend to be annoying sometimes (especially if you are not a gossiping type), these salons tend to charge less compared to the urban and Luxury salons in the city Center. Thus attracting a big number of customers.

Free services

It’s only in these salons that ladies run to with excuses like ‘Maama Namu please help with the hair spray for my wig, mine just got finished recently’ and the salon lady happily does it. Still when the hair was plaited by that particular salon, ladies sometimes go back to do hair repair for free or for a much discounted price.

Hair professionals

This is another fact about these salons we can’t fail to acknowledge, they are always good when it comes to providing good hair services and even charge less, the salon ladies always give time to their clients until they feel good about the hairstyle.

The salon ladies always have time to find out what might look good on their custom and can always advise accordingly.
