Uganda President Yoweri Museveni has met musician Eddy Kenzo and appreciated him for winning accolades in music on the global stage.

State House spokesman Don Wanyama announced the news of the meeting on his twitter page.

“Artiste @eddykenzoficial this evening paid a courtesy call on @KagutaMuseveni at State House, Entebbe. The musician shared the story of his life with the President, who promised more support to artistes,” Wanyama posted.

Kenzo, also a BET award winner, recently won another award, the African Entertainer of the Year at the African Entertainment Awards in US. He returned home to a jubilant crowd awaiting him at Entebbe International Airport.

Kenzo who won the award amidst the controversy of his girlfriend Rema Namakula being “stolen” by Dr Hamza Ssebunya, has in the past complained that the government of Uganda has not appreciated him for his work of promoting Uganda on this international stage through music. Kenzo is also seen as a strong supporter of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyadondo aka Bobi Wine, who has emerged as Museveni’s strong challenger ahead of 2021 general elections.

On Monday October 28, 2019, Kenzo’s dream of being recognised by the head of state, came to pass as he was invited to State House and shared pleasantries with the Uganda president. It is reported he used the opportunity to tell the president his life story. He also carried his award for the president to see. Kenzo has in the past donated his BET award to the Uganda Museum in Kamwokya.

The artiste has been in the news recently crying out in social media videas after a cleric Nooh Muzaata said unflattering words at Rema Namakula’s pre wedding event. Kenzo took the comments personal. He threatened to stop singing until Muzaata apologises for insulting him, and his mother before his daughter. Many critics say Kenzo was crying for Rema and not Muzaata’s attacks.

President Museveni has always heightened his campaign among musicians and other artistes. In the move seen as attempts to isolate pop-star turned politician Bobi Wine, Museveni is doing more rounds in Kampala’s slums which are seen as Bobi’s strongholds, and he is also winning more artistes to his side.
