Vivienne Mbuga: Balaam rushes to police with weak legal notice, bounced

In the absence of her jailed husband SK Mbuga, Vivienne has a good friend in Balaam Barugahare.

On Wednesday, the events promoter rushed to CIID offices in Kibuli with a legal notice which demanded immediate release of Vivienne.

Vivienne was arrested on February 15 2019 by CID officers, and held a Kibuli Police Station on allegations of fleecing over 53 million Swedish Krona (about Shs23 billion) from her Swedish boyfriend Sten Heinsoo in 2017.

While speaking on a local TV station, Balaam claimed that the reason why he was so helpful was because it’s unfair and against the law to keep someone in police custody for more than 48 hours, before taking them to court.

“SK Mbuga and his wife Vivienne are my good friends and very good people. They don’t deserve such injustice, that why I petitioned police to have Vivienne released because 48 hours have already elapsed,” Balaam stated.

But according to Vincent Sekatte, the CID spokesperson, they are following Interpol’s notice which demanded the immediate arrest of Vivienne, adding that her case is more serious and delicate than what Balaam thinks.

“Balaam’s court notice is very weak since it was issued by a grade one magistrate. A grade one magistrate doesn’t have the authority to demand for Vivienne’s release,” Ssekate said.
