KAMPALA. Pastor Umar Mulinde of Gospel Life Church International this week has said his life is in danger.
While addressing the media at Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala yesterday, Mr Mulinde, who has recently returned from Israel where he went specialised treatment following an acid attack in 2011, said on Tuesday he narrowly escaped from robbers who targeted his life.
“I was skilled enough and I escaped from them. They took some of my valuables. These people were after my life and they have been following me up all this while,” he said.
Referring to the group as ‘religious extremists’, Mulinde said despite reporting the matter to Kisubi Police Station in Wakiso District under ref number 05/25/09/2018 on cases of burglary and theft, no suspect has been arrested because some people are planted within the security and government to sabotage investigations.
“It is not only the police that is infiltrated by gangs, the government is too. Up to now, no suspect has been arrested. When I came back from treatment, I looked for my file of the acid attack on me and it cannot be found anywhere,” Mulinde said.
In 2011, unknown goons who poured acid on his face, causing severe burns.
Pr Mulinde said that the fact that the suspects have not been arrested shows how weak the countries investigations have become putting every Ugandan in an insecure position.
“These people are not targeting me and other pastors or the high profile people. Everyone is a target. With extremists, after attacking their enemies, they go for none-enemies and thereafter their own friends. We call on security to be beefed up,” he said.
Police say investigations into the case are ongoing.
