His Eminence the Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje has strongly condemned Israel’s recent declaration of Jerusalem as the Capital city of the Jewish state.

Mubajje described the move as “an act of aggression”.

While addressing a Press Conference held today at the UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala, the Mufti said; “We the Muslims of Uganda strongly condemn the recent Zionist Declaration of Jerusalem to be the capital city of Israel”.

He also expressed dissatisfaction with the U.S. President Donald Trump for endorsing this illegal Zionist act by transferring the U.S. Embassy from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem.

This aggression act has been widely condemned by the international community and the United Nations as illegal and dangerous.

The Mufti was particularly concerned by the politicization and breach of a Holy city that is sacred to different religions including Christianity.

“Realizing and respecting the position of both the UN General Assembly and the Security Council that had repeatedly declared such activities to be contrary to International law, we Muslims in accordance with Islamic teachings consider Aqsa Mosque (in Jerusalem) as one of the earliest and most noteworthy places of worshiping Allah” the Mufti stated.

According to Islamic teachings, Prophet Muhammad PBUH was transcended to the heavens from Al Aqsa in the miraculous Night Journey (Mi’raj)

The Prophet led prayers towards Al Aqsa in Jerusalem until the 17th month after his emigration, when Allah directed him to turn towards the Holy Kaaba in Mecca during prayers.

The Mufti called upon the international community and all peace loving people to resist this illegal move which he said may lead to human bloodshed and disrespect of values embedded in tolerance and peaceful co-existence.

He also called upon the entire Muslim, Arab world and other governments to unite and stand firm in denouncing and condemning this act of aggression perpetrated by Israel with support from the U.S. government.

Meanwhile the mufti also inaugurated the tailoring workshop donated to Uganda Muslim supreme council by the Turkish TIKA organization and appealed to the Muslims especially women and girls to make use of the opportunity of the tailoring workshop to curb the unemployment level in the country.

Also in his speech during the opening ceremony at the headquarters of Uganda Muslim supreme council, mufti promised to help some of the learners in the inaugurated tailoring workshop who will have completed the course by giving them tailoring machines so that they can set up their own tailoring stations.

The secretary for women and children at Uganda Muslim supreme council Hajjat Radhiya Namakula applauded the Turkish government for helping the Muslims of Uganda and promised to support the workshop.
