In a dramatic turn of events that has left Uganda buzzing with debate and controversy, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has expressed his heartfelt sympathy to Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, after a tear gas canister allegedly struck the politician on Tuesday, injuring his left leg.

The incident, which took place in broad daylight, has sparked a whirlwind of speculation and mixed reactions among Ugandans. In his statement, Mayiga wished Bobi Wine a swift recovery and urged the police and military to exercise greater caution in executing their duties, warning that such actions could “throw the country into danger.”

According to reports from the scene, Robert Kyagulanyi was allegedly struck by a tear gas canister that wounded his left leg, with fragments lodging into his flesh. The politician, also a musician and leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), is said to have undergone an operation to remove the fragments. His spokesperson, Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi, confirmed that Bobi Wine had indeed been shot at, a statement supported by several eyewitness accounts.

However, the Uganda Police have categorically denied the allegations, claiming that Kyagulanyi simply “stumbled” while entering his car, which caused the injury to his leg. The police narrative has stirred up a storm of differing opinions across the nation, with some Ugandans rallying behind the police’s version, while others are convinced that Bobi Wine was targeted.

To add fuel to the fire, a video recorded at the scene is making the rounds on social media, appearing to show Kyagulanyi being hit by a tear gas canister. The footage, which has quickly gone viral, has only heightened the skepticism surrounding the police’s official report.

The incident has brought Uganda’s political tensions back into the spotlight. In his message of sympathy, Katikkiro Mayiga, a respected cultural leader, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order, and implored law enforcement to prioritize the safety of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.

With social media platforms ablaze with heated debates, it seems everyone has something to say about this unfolding drama. As Ugandans wait to see how this story develops, one thing is certain: the controversy surrounding Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi’s injury is far from over.
