Lwengo District Executive Committee has resolved to fire the District Service Commission officials over alleged irregular recruitment of staff.

Besides the dismissal of the commissioners, the district executive has also unanimously agreed to investigate the recent recruitment process of staff to ascertain their levels of competence.

Ibrahim Kitatta, the Lwengo LCV Chairperson says their decision comes after a series of complaints of abuse of office by members of the commission which include soliciting bribes from job applicants.

He says their preliminary findings have established that the district also hired unqualified staff in key technical positions, because they paid bribes during interviews, beating their qualified counterparts.

Kitatta says that besides pushing for staff academic verification from the Public Service Commission, they are also going to move the district council to vote out the District Service Commission from office and begin the process of appointing a new one.

Vincent Birimuye, the Lwengo LCV Vice-Chairperson says that they received complaints from applicants who were allegedly asked for bribes by members of the commission.

But Yusufuh Babumba, the Lwengo District Service Commission Chairperson when contacted dismissed the allegations. He says the allegations of corruption could be on an individual basis or against speculators who purport to have connections to the commission before soliciting bribes from the unsuspecting job applicants.

“I’m ready to cooperate with whatever investigations because I know that I’m tainted with unacceptable conduct,” he says.

The inquiries in Lwengo have also come shortly after the suspension of the Kyotera District Service Commission over similar complaints of bribery and unscrupulous recruitment of staff.
