Police in Kanungu district are hunting for suspects that allegedly assaulted a 45 year old man who died instantly.

According to Elly Maate the Kigezi regional police spokesperson, the deceased is Sam Owoyesigire a resident of Bugiri Village Kanyantoro Sub county Kanungu district.Maate told the press that on wednesday at around 09:00 am, when the deceased proceeded to Bugiri Village to pick his charcoal; along the way he was intercepted by a group of people who assaulted him on allegation that he had been stealing their goats in Bugiri village.

Maate said the deceased was rushed to Bugiri Health Center11 where he succumbed to injuries at around 05:45 pm.He added that the matter was reported at Kanyantoro police post which alerted Kanungu central police station. The scene was visited, documented and the body was taken to Kataate Health Center 1V for postmortem.

He further said that inquiries have already been initiated to trace for the suspects such that they can be apprehended and that the case of murder as result of assault has been registered at Kanungu central police station under reference number CRB 219/2022.
